Project RIDE Gears Up for Dunlop Round Up Car Show in San Jose, California

WHAT:
Using a love of cars for their message, four car teams and Project RIDE will unite to bring their anti-tobacco sponsorship and education message to the Dunlop Round Up Car Show.

WHY:
This rare alliance shows the power of the import car scene to have positive impact on our communities and on the youth. Project RIDE is fighting tobacco sponsorship in the extremely popular import scene. Tobacco sponsorship has begun to rear its ugly head at car shows through booths, free giveaways, ads and other incentives.

Fact Smoking is the #1 cause of preventable death and kills over 400,000 Americans each year. Asian Americans saw the largest increase among any ethnic group in smoking rates from 7th to 12th grade (American Legacy Foundation).

The Dunlop Round Up Car Show gathers over 300 Bay Area import car enthusiasts, friends and families for a car showcase event prior to Hot Import Nights, the biggest import car show in Northern California. The Dunlop Round Up Car Show is a lively and positive atmosphere with BBQ and live music.

WHO:
Team Showcase, Team Inertia, 247 Racing, and Team Incursion (RIDE sponsored teams), the RIDE Crew, and RIDE Advocates.

As featured in Super Streetand Hyphen magazine, the RIDE Crew is a statewide volunteer network of over 300 young adult car enthusiasts aged 14-28 yrs. The goal of RIDE is to bring together young people from diverse backgrounds of the Bay Area and beyond with a love of cars and racing to protect both their communities and the automobile scene from social injustice. RIDE is a program of the Bay Area Community Resources, and is funded by the California Department of Health Services, Tobacco Control Section, Santa Clara County Department of Public Health and San Francisco County of Public Health.
